Tour “Walking with the Yamparas” in Chuquisaca

If you want to explore Andean landscapes and get to know the culture of one of the Bolivian indigenous nations that still preserves its traditional weaved fabrics, gastronomy, and agriculture, the Yampara Trekk is the perfect option for you.

The “Yampara Trekk” offers a one-day experiential tour to learn about the Yampara communities’ culture,
settled in the Icla municipality, Chuquisaca department, in southern Bolivia.

On this trip you will be able to appreciate this indigenous nation traditions, from its weaved fabrics to the
men plowing the land and the women with their herds. The experience begins with a visit to some homes
and to the Unaypallay weaved fabrics museum.

Then you can continue to the San Jacinto community, from there walk 10 kilometers to the Icla town. On
the way to Icla you can observe the local people’s daily life, such as at k’arallantayoj, where the community
shows to the visitors their dances, weaved fabrics, and gastronomy.

Lunch is served at this town’s viewpoint, with an almost 180° panoramic view of the mountain chain and
the neighboring towns. In the afternoon, there is a walk through Icla’s town center, the municipality
capital, and the canyons, where rock formations up to 80 meters high and 20 meters wide can be
observed, which narrows as you walk in the canyon.
